Product Testing & Monitoring

Enermodal’s unique combination of skills—building design, computer simulation, and detailed monitoring—allows us to perform comprehensive research on the performance of new building products and systems. Our monitoring capabilities range from field inspections using one-time measurements of temperatures, flows, light levels, and power consumption to long-term data collection and analysis using PC-based data acquisition systems. Monitored results are compared to detailed computer simulations to determine if products are performing as expected.

Enermodal’s monitoring results are used by manufacturers to identify and resolve product design flaws, and are used by governments and utilities to establish independent performance results. Examples of field monitoring studies include the following:

  • solar domestic hot water systems
  • heat pump heat recovery units
  • gas-fired baseboard heaters
  • radiant cooling systems
  • solar crop drying systems

In some cases, computer simulation can be a more effective tool than monitoring in analysing product performance. Detailed computer simulation models can evaluate the performance of products and systems in a wide range of climates and building types that would be too costly and time consuming to study by monitoring.
