What to Expect From Your LEED™ Consultant

With the rising importance of sustainability, building developers and operators, municipalities and government agencies are often required to compare the services and expertise offered by LEED consultants. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is the most widely-used rating system for sustainable or “green” buildings and communities. Building owners and design teams are finding – sometimes too late – that the service offerings of LEED consultants are vastly different.

Rather than risk bringing a LEED consultant with little relevant experience or a limited scope of work onto a project team, building or community developers should include a comprehensive and specific scope of work for their LEED consultant in an RFP. A properly prepared RFP can make it more likely that at LEED project achieves successful certification. In addition, the specific qualifications and services offered by a LEED consultant affects final project cost and the amount of sustainable design work offloaded to other members of the project team.
