| Because Enermodal are building energy and environmental specialists, we offer unique services not found in traditional
mechanical/electrical firms. Enermodal performs technical and economic evaluations of innovative energy efficient technologies using advanced computer simulation tools. With this expertise, Enermodal can then design high performance buildings. Descriptions of our unique services follow.
Energy Simulation
Enermodal has extensive expertise in using hourly building energy analysis tools, such as EE4, DOE 2.1 and
E-QUEST, that predict building annual energy use. When necessary, these models can be customized to analyze unique or complicated energy systems. Because of our energy simulation expertise, we have performed or reviewed more EE4 simulations for the CBIP program than any other firm.
Enermodal has broad experience in modelling the energy use in
complex buildings such as large laboratories and
hospitals. Our projects include the National Marine
Fisheries Service Honolulu Laboratory and the
IBM Software Headquarters (PDF).
Daylighting Analysis
Enermodal is one of the leading daylighting design firms in North America. Our personnel were national representatives to the International Energy Agency Task on Daylighting and prepared the widely acclaimed "Daylighting Design Guide for Canadian Commercial
Buildings." Our services include simulation of daylighting illumination and annual energy savings using
RADIANCE and the Building Design Advisor (BDA) software and design of effective daylighting strategies and control systems.
Building Envelope Heat and Moisture Transfer
Many building envelopes suffer premature failure due to moisture build-up and thermal bridging. Enermodal has the expertise to design building envelopes that can perform well in any environment. We have performed more ASHRAE research projects dealing with envelope heat and moisture transfer than any other firm. Furthermore, Enermodal has provided expert opinion to the Model National Energy Code and several national and international envelope standards. Wall, window and curtain wall heat transfer and surface temperatures can be analyzed with the FRAMEplus software. Diurnal and seasonal moisture transfer can be assessed with the WUFI computer program.
Ventilation and Air Flow Analysis
Displacement ventilation, demand-controlled ventilation and natural cooling are effective strategies for achieving better indoor air quality and lower energy costs. Enermodal evaluates the performance of these systems using detailed heat and air flow models and determines the best system design.
Rewnewable Energy System Simulation
Solar ventilation air preheating, low temperature water heating, photovoltaics and wind turbines can be efficient and cost effective in the right application. Enermodal has 25 years of experience and expertise in evaluating and designing these systems. Our projects include solar crop drying systems in a variety of climates;
Canada's largest industrial photovoltaic system; solar water heating for aquaculture farms;
and North America's first solar-heated community in
Okotoks, Alberta.
